Starlight Writing Academy certifies and awards certificates based on learning hours, candidate work and course level. Each course undergoes a regular revision for improvement.
The learning hours associated with each Award, Certificate and Diploma provided by the Starlight Writing Academy is classroom/contact hours. There is no set limit on hours for studying through the online classroom.
The number of hours per Award, Certificate or Diploma denotes the qualification level and the Knowledge, Skills and Expertise acquired. Additional hours are required to complete assessments for Certificates and Diplomas and these are allocated by the candidate’s own judgement.
Learning Hours and Qualification Level Allocation
Shorts: These are short courses focussing on a single unit with one associated exercise for completion. There is no formal grading required to complete the short courses. The unit exercise is reviewed with a comment and returned to the candidate within one week of submission. Short Detail: 1 - 3 Learning Hours.
Awards: Formal Grading with 40% pass mark is required to complete the Award courses. Award assessment is based on individual unit exercises. Unit exercise grades are returned to the candidate within one week of submission. Award Detail: 4 to 8 Learning Hours. Knowledge: 60%. Skills: 40%
Certificates: Formal Grading with 50% pass mark is required to complete the Certificate courses. Certificate assessment includes unit exercises (30%) and a final assignment (70%). Unit exercise grades are returned to the candidate within one week of submission and the final assignment grade is returned to the candidate within three weeks of submission. Certificate Detail: 9 to 20 Learning Hours. Knowledge: 50%. Skills: 50%.
Diploma Certificate: Formal Grading with 60% pass mark is required to complete the Diploma courses. Diploma assessment includes unit exercises (30%) and a final assignment (70%). Unit exercise grades are returned to the candidate within one week of submission and the final assignment grade is returned to the candidate within three weeks of submission. Diploma Detail: 21 to 35 Learning Hours. Knowledge: 40%. Skills: 60%.

Quality Assurance of the Starlight Writing Academy
The Starlight Writing Academy will monitor all of its courses and determine whether
A new programme is required
An offered programme continues to meet with an identified need/demand
A programme benefits the learners and the community
Should a new programme be required, programme development will take place through appropriate programme planning, design, objectives and learning outcomes.
The Starlight Writing Academy places a great emphasis on training delivery to set and maintain good standards of programme delivery. At the beginning of each course, candidates will receive a course syllabus and clearly laid out learning outcomes. Sufficient time will be allotted to cover the course material. Following each course, candidates will be asked to evaluate the course using an evaluation form.
Each programme will undergo an annual review which will assist in identifying any necessary changes required to programmes.
Security of Assessment Materials
Assessments in the form of assignments or project work carried out for the completion of certificate and diploma programmes are completed by the candidate and are collected by the Starlight Writing Academy. Following marking and grading, all assessment material is maintained by the academy for a period of two years. Following this period, assessment material is destroyed.
Marking of Assessment Material
To ensure appropriate standards are in place for assessment marking, the Starlight Writing Academy will use an external third party training institute to verify a 20% sample marking of assessment material. This will help to ensure fairness, consistency and validity of assessment.
Feedback and Certification
Following marking by the Starlight Writing Academy and sample verification through a third party institute, each candidate will be provided with a certification for the completion of the programme along with formal feedback on the assignments/projects submitted. Where candidates pursue the course through the online classroom, feedback on grades will be issued through email.
Should a candidate wish to review certificate feedback, they can do so through e-mail with in fourteen days of receiving the feedback and certification.
